Straight jacket starjumps
Alex Chinneck is an artist who combines a multitude of disciplines to create ‘contextually responsive interventions that animate the place in which they stand.’
Created as a sister piece to his Landmark LDF project Bullet from a shooting star; Straight jacket star jumps was installed at the NOW Gallery in 2015. A 21m pylon rolled into a 7m diameter ball, made from rolled aluminium angle sat floor to ceiling in the gallery space.
Joining Chinneck and his 3D visualiser at the fabrication stage to convert his drawings and computer models into a real life object.
As a computer model, the sculpture was split into its constituent curves and the information was sent to a section bending company. On return, each piece had to be cut to size, drilled and assembled.
